Federalist Gubernatorial Candidate: Kylie Jipp

Story by Jade Gonzalez

Following the debate, Federalist Party Gubernatorial candidate Kylee Jipp sat down for a one-on-one interview to help get to know her as a candidate on a more personal level. The follow is the transcript of this interview.

Q: First off, why do you believe you should be elected governor over your opponent?

A: Like I said in the actual debate, i have had multiple experience in leadership areas like: National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, Chapter Office of my FFA, and I'm a really good public speaker. I would say because I’m in Speech at my school and I just am a really good listener too. I guess that’s just one thing ,I really listen to the problems that people have and I focus on them, direct my attention to them and I try to find the best solution that I can come up with. Another thing is that I don't only rely on myself like I rely on my teammates like as an officer team for FFA like we do so many things together that we rely on each others opinions on it. So I think  I’m a good multitasker and team worker.

Q: What do you believe are the biggest problems our generation faces?

A: One really big issue for teenagers is the adulting factor. I just don’t want to adult today. So then we are becoming a procrastination nation, and that’s going to slow down so many processes, and it’s going to drag down the government if everyone feels like that. Also any issues on diversity, the one citizen brought up the diversity in Omaha and how to better initiate that. I honestly don’t know how to answer that question in particular, for a city. Maybe program to get youth, diverse youth, like go around, and I don’t know kind of combine them.

Q: Culture Appreciation?

A: Yeah, like Cinco De Mayo. Maybe we could have a day for each culture.

Q: How can Nebraska improve our schools? Like when considering school size?

A: One thing that I know when, like with Omaha the one girl wanted to divide up the districts, disperse the tax money between the schools, I think we need to do more of that. Like if one school makes more than another we don’t make away their earning money, but like the tax paying transfer that around the board, to make sure each school gets an equal opportunity. The No Child Left Behind, that’s a campaign, they’re trying their best to keep up with it, but children can get left behind if they don’t have the proper equipment to keep up with their assignments.

Q: What do you think of the Electoral College? Should we keep it? Should we get rid of it?

A: Honestly I feel like the Electoral College is fine, because it allows Nebraska to have a say in the government. It gives us smaller states a change to get our voice out there, our opinion out. So it’s necessary because California is a big state and if we only took from the popular vote it’s going to affect a lot of things. Our forefathers installed that into our government so I really wouldn’t want to mess with it.

Q: What issues pertain to your platform? What are the main issues you are focusing on?

A: Definitely the veterans and getting them help. What Virginia said about the VA doing everything they can. They are doing everything they can. Also citizens need to be doing more to for them. For example if you see a homeless veteran give them food, give them shelter, they are traumatized from going over and defending our freedoms. Help them out, help get the veterans get back on their feet. Other big issue is the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We need to incorporate  some way to get classes set up, like therapy, maybe group therapy, similar to AA but not AA. You would go there and relate to other people. They need to get over, well not get over because you can’t really get over it, but to help deal with it in a way that beneficial to you.

Q: Why should we be concerned about what happens in our government?

A:We should be concerned about what happens in our government because that affects our daily lives as much as it affects anything else in the world. If our government fails our country fails. If our country fails people fail and then we are literally obliterated to nothing. Laws matter you need to have restrictions you can’t just have a complete anarchy.

Q: How would you improve our state?

A: Well we are number one in corn production and that’s another thing is food insecurity factor of it. Even in our small town I know kids that don’t get meals, that aren’t adequately fed. That’s really going to affect them even in how they see themselves. Maybe not even food security is what I’m thinking more like how we address mental health issues probably like the views that the younger generation has on themselves and how to effectively deal with them so a child can grow up in a positive environment and believe in themselves
