Special remarks: Nebraska senators send well wishes to delegates

Wednesday afternoon's session brought brief greetings from our Nebraska Senators Deb Fischer and Mike Johanns. Although the events were prerecorded, they left a lasting impression on the delegates.

Senator Deb Fischer paid many compliments and doled out advice. She not only commended delegates for being accepted to Girls State, but also she invited them to intern with her. Fischer said she works on a day-to-day basis with other women who are Girls State alumnae. That fact illustrated that the program has the capacity for producing many great leaders.

Fischer shared that the current Nebraska legislature holds the record for the most female representatives in the house this year. There are currently 20 Senate and 78 house women, Fischer stated.

She left a special and inspiring message to all of the delegates about following dreams, doing what you love and by doing this you will always be happy.

In Mike Johanns’ message, he also complimented the delegates and briefly shared his story of becoming a senator. Johanns explained how he started his career off as a local representative. After gaining further experience, he worked his way up to the position he holds now. He set an example for women who plan to pursue higher goals throughout their lives.
