Living and learning: Chairman Gwen Crawford takes the stage

Everybody knows life throws us curve balls.  It takes courage to swing anyway.  Gwen Crawford, the chairman of Cornhusker Girls State 2013, knows the meaning of the phrase.  In her speech, cleverly titled “Just Ask,” Crawford shared her wisdom from her life experiences. 

Crawford has faced many challenges, private and public, throughout her life. In the stories she told the delegates, she pointed out the essentials—never forget to say, "I love you," and tips in moving from the past in order to embrace the future. Crawford preached in self-confidence, even in failure, second chances and persistence in all aspects of life.

Crawford’s grandmother was an integral part of her child and adulthood. Donna Gana was present and was teary-eyed throughout, especially at the reiteration of her granddaughter’s personal story.  The inspirational talk ended with an emotional embrace between grandmother and granddaughter and thunderous applause from the delegates.

Crawford keeps herself motivated, especially in difficult situations.  She suggests other motivational speakers and inspirational quotes in hard times.  Life throws curve balls.  Swing anyways and don’t worry.  Just wait for the next pitch.
