The Cleveland Collies

Story by Abigail Thomas

The ‘Cleveland Collies’ call Floor Two of Sandoz Hall their home during the six days that Girls State takes place. Despite their mascot, these ladies do not lead a dog’s life by any means.

When asked about what makes her town unique, citizen Anna Sitzman didn’t hesitate to say “We’re the best! We have a shower schedule!”

Not only does this floor come with a shower schedule, but a group of girls telling ghost stories after-hours is just as easy to locate. Citizens Jodi Watak and Kylee Jipp both agree that sharing ghost stories were their favorite bonding moment between the Cleveland girls.

Sitzman, however, said that anytime she’s in the back of the line is her favorite bonding time.

Speaking of bonding, the delegates on this floor are thick as thieves! Jipp and Watak both used ‘close-knit’ as one of three adjectives that best describe the delegates in the town.

Jipp, who is campaigning for Governor (Federalist party), uses this sense of community to aid in her campaign. The supportive citizens are willing to represent her even when she’s not around.

Watak and Jipp also said that good adjectives for this floor are: fun, supportive, ambitious and crazy.

It would seem as if the citizens of Cleveland are as lovable as puppies, and the Collies will no doubt have an amazing experience at Girls State!
