My Favorite Part of Cornhusker Girls State was...

Story by Abigail Thomas, Neleigh Gehl, Annie Johnson, Noelle Jossoff, Nicki Payne, Paytra TeBrink & Sadie DeJonge

One of the most beautiful parts of Girls State is seeing the transformation that takes place in the lives of these girls and how much they have grown since arriving on Sunday. They have made new friends, some find a new passion in Government and politics and they all gain a newfound sense of confidence. The energy throughout the University of Nebraska bounces from wall to wall and it is all because of these young ladies and the relationships they have forged with one another. For one of our Friday blog posts we wanted to highlight what some of our citizens have taken away from their time here at Girls State...besides a lack of sleep!

 Calista Shanle

My favorite part of girls state is meeting all of the new people.

 Zahira Lopez

My favorite part of the week was getting to meet new people and having an open mind about other people's opinions.

Rebecca Lennemann

My favorite part of Girls State was being able to get to know people at the whistle stop campaigns. I thought it was really cool to see everyone’s personalities come out.

Uyen Tran

My favorite part of Girls State so far has been the gubernatorial debate! It was cool, and a good debate. Both candidates did a good job, and the questions were intense! They were intelligent and gave those even in the audience a lot to think about.

Hannah Cass

So far, my favorite thing about Girls State has been the Rapid Fire portion of the state campaigns.

Morgan Baack

I liked what Jo said, the more you learn, the more you earn. And that if you work harder, it will pay off in the end. I’m really glad I had the opportunity to have met a lot of new girls from across the state that I probably would not have had the chance to meet if it wasn’t for Girls State.

Bar-Lee Klein

The best part about Girls State was definitely getting to spend the week with people I didn’t know before and getting to make some lifelong friends and learn more about the government.

Madison Huppert

My favorite memory is that I became popular for my good smelling hand sanitizer. Its called Oo La La and It’s actually how I made some of my friends like Sophia Svanda.
