As Nebraska Cornhusker Girls State members, we have many
responsibilities and obligations that we need to follow in order to best
represent ourselves. From our day-to-day etiquette to our “classy not trashy”
style, Girls Staters have made their mark throughout the years on Nebraska’s
society.
One way we show our Girls State pride is by our knowledge of both current events and government information. During the week at Girls State, each delegate is required to take two tests that will challenge their knowledge of these subjects.
One way we show our Girls State pride is by our knowledge of both current events and government information. During the week at Girls State, each delegate is required to take two tests that will challenge their knowledge of these subjects.
The first test, the current events quiz, was taken this morning in the Union ballroom. Education Director Virginia Nelson was in charge of making and grading these tests.
Some of Nelson’s questions included the recent storms along the east coast and in Moore, Okla. Others were trivial questions about our former presidents and their modern-day connections. Although, a few questions, like who won the Super Bowl, were what Nelson called “gimmes,”others were quite challenging.
“The hardest question for me was the one that asked who won the NCAA women’s tournament,” Roosevelt delegate Annie Polland said. “I didn't pay attention to the tournament so I just had no idea.”
At the end of this forty-question quiz were two bonus questions that were meant to be fun for the girls. Nelson chose her favorite first lady, Dolly Madison, as the subject of one of these questions.
