Party Rundown: Federalists

“Alone we are fast, but together we will go far.” This is the slogan and the motivational phrase used by the Girls State 2013 Federalist Party. During the gathering and development of this party, serious topics were discussed such as veterans and their disabilities caused by war, bullying and whether the party can prevent it or help those who have been bullied.

Discussion of the Patriot Act transformed into a debate over racial discrimination and mandatory drug tests for welfare recipients. With the debates came a better understanding of the difficulty coming up with party platforms. The Federalists adopted three of the four platforms.

Many party members felt drained of energy and uncertain on where the party stood at the end of the session. While they were exhausted, there were many other positive aspects. It brought out a natural trend within the group: western Nebraskans were more concerned with agricultural issues versus easterners who leaned more towards urban development and school systems.  The sways show the diversity of the girls attending Girls State and represent their lifestyles.
