And the winner is: Girls State gov. announced

Girls State citizens elected their 2013 Governor on Wednesday. Lily Lutter of Bennington beat out Annie Polland for the title. Lutter was a representative of the Federalist party. Polland from Boys Town represented the Nationalist party.

Some of Lutters campaigning strategies included painting t-shirts, handing out banners and pins and word of mouth.  Her name was passed due to her charismatic and outgoing personality that most identified as traits of a leader.

Lutter conveyed her strong opinions at Tuesday nights gubernatorial debate. Her main platform was promoting support for returning veterans through providing funds for medical and mental health programs.  The debate was lengthy and took two hours consisting of many current and educated questions from citizens.

Throughout the week, Lutter will continue to serve the Girls State citizens through duties that include meetings with the other elected state offices and speaking to the coordinators for the citizens.
