Floor Two

By Hayden Richardson

The atmosphere that surrounded the second floor was a spirited one. Fifty girls inhabited the floor for
the week in order to learn about the Nebraskan government and honor the American Legion Auxiliary.

Three young ladies were stationed on each floor as counselors to help facilitate the week. For the City
of Pierce, their senior counselor was Michelle Malone, and she has been residing as a counselor for
Girls State for the last ten years. Carlin Daharsh was their middle counselor, and she had been given
the experience of attending Girls Nation when she was an attendee of Girls State, which is a
tremendous honor. The third counselor that helped to tame the mild insanity that ensues when 50
girls are living in a small space for an extended period of time was Emma Loberg and she served as the junior counselor for the floor. Loberg’s favorite memory from when she attended Girls State was
being able to witness the two governor candidates battle for the position. An eventful week ensued
for the young ladies, and it was impressive to see what they had in store.
